SUMMER FRIZZ
Why your hair is frizzier in the summer
Frizz is a super common and frustrating issue many of my clients deal with. While there are many contributing factors when it comes to frizzy hair in general, today I want to focus on why hair tends to get frizzier in the summer (as you may have recently noticed).
The answer is simple - increased humidity and heat.
Here's a breakdown of why this happens:
Humidity: High levels of moisture in the air cause hair cuticles to lift and swell. Curly and wavy hair types are particularly prone to frizz in humid conditions because the hair strands absorb moisture from the air, causing them to expand and lose their smooth texture.
Heat: Excessive heat can strip hair of its natural oils, leading to dryness. When hair becomes dry, it seeks moisture from the humid air, which can cause the hair cuticles to open and frizz to occur.
UV Exposure: The sun's ultraviolet (UV) rays can damage the hair's outer layer, making it more porous and prone to frizz. UV exposure can also weaken the hair shaft, leading to breakage and split ends, which contribute to a frizzier appearance.
To combat summer frizz, it's essential to use moisturizing hair products, avoid excessive heat styling and protect hair from UV rays with hats or UV-protectant sprays.
When it comes to the topic of frizz, this is just the tip of the iceberg. I'm going to be diving deeper into causes and solutions in the very near future, so keep an eye out for my next email and future social media posts!

WHAT WE'RE WATCHING
Bridgerton Season 3 on Netflix
Everyone is telling me they're watching the newest season of Bridgerton! I haven't gotten the chance yet, as I'm still binging Mad Men (and will be sad when it ends), but I'm looking forward to starting something new! I absolutely love the costumes, hair, and makeup in this show.
WHAT WE'RE TALKING ABOUT Baby birds
The birdhouses I got for Mother's Day are occupied with chirping baby birds! We’ve been watching the birds build nests for awhile now. My guests tell me they enjoy watching them go in and out of the birdhouses while they get their hair done. We're still trying to figure out if they're sparrows or house wren! If you know a thing or two about birds - maybe you can help me identify them during your next visit.
FAVORITE THINGS
Wet Brush Wide Tooth Detangling Comb
A wide tooth detangling comb should be a staple in everyone's hair care toolkit. Great for all hair types, this comb's rounded teeth help it gently and effortlessly detangle. It's also a great tool to comb through conditioners and masks for thorough and even product distribution.
