Let's Talk Frizz

In my last Salon Goodness post, I talked about why hair is frizzier in the summer and told you to be on the lookout for more information on the topic.

 

So here I am today ready to dive into the 3 main causes of frizz and how to prevent them!

 

Let's get right into it.

 

The three main causes of frizz are dryness, buildup, and friction.

 

Dryness, or lack of moisture in the hair, is the main cause of frizz. Dry hair seeks moisture from the air around it - which is why humidity often makes frizz worse. 

In order to prevent frizz from dryness, ensure your hair is hydrated and moisturized by using things like leave in conditioners or hydrating hair masks. Then seal that water in from roots to ends with the appropriate stylers.  

 

Buildup of products, pollutants, minerals, or oils on the hair and scalp can also cause frizz. When there is buildup on the hair, water and moisturizing products can't penetrate the hair strand so your hair will remain dry. Removing buildup is the first step in eliminating frizz.

In order to prevent frizz from buildup, use a clarifying shampoo regularly.

 

Friction from touching your hair too much, wearing a hoodie or high collared shirt, or not using sleep protection can most certainly cause frizz.

In order to prevent frizz from friction, stop touching your hair so much, avoid clothing that rubs on your hair, and use sleep protection like a bonnet or silk pillowcase.
