Clarifying is an essential but often neglected step in hair care maintenance. It's something that I recommend for all my clients, especially those who regularly use product and/or have hard water.
So today I want to dive a little deeper into the underrated process of clarifying - equipping you with all the info you need to start incorporating it into your routine!
What is clarifying?
Clarifying is a deep-cleansing process that removes buildup, residue, and impurities from the hair and scalp. Over time, products like shampoos, conditioners, styling products, and even hard water minerals can accumulate on the hair shaft, weighing it down and dulling its appearance. Clarifying helps to strip away these deposits, leaving the hair clean, refreshed, and ready for optimal styling and treatment.
Why is it important?
Regular clarifying is essential for maintaining the health and vitality of your hair. Product buildup can not only make your hair look dull and lifeless but can also interfere with the effectiveness of other hair care products. By removing residue and impurities, clarifying allows your hair to better absorb moisture, nutrients, and treatments, resulting in improved manageability, shine, and overall health.
How often to clarify:
The frequency of clarifying depends on various factors, including your hair type, texture, and the amount of product you use. I will give you a personalized clarifying schedule during your appointment, but as a general guideline, aim to clarify your hair once every 4-6 weeks. A good way to remember to clarify is to do it right before your regularly scheduled appointments with me!
How to clarify:
You clarify your hair just like you would regularly shampoo your hair! During your shower, just swap your regular shampoo with a clarifying shampoo. Wet your hair thoroughly, apply the shampoo and gently massage it into your scalp and throughout the lengths of your hair. Rinse thoroughly and follow with a conditioner. By incorporating regular clarifying into your hair care routine, you can maintain healthy, vibrant hair that looks and feels its best. Remember to choose the right clarifying products, follow proper clarifying techniques, and adjust the frequency based on your hair's unique needs. With consistent care and attention, you can enjoy beautiful hair every day.
